Yes, I'm loving the sunshine and warm weather. I feel like a lizard trying to get as warm as I can. And, I'm so glad we didn't run into any rattlesnakes. I think all I would know to do is run!

Sunscreen on a hike with your cute dog in February. I'm jealous. Sounds wonderful! Enjoy it, but steer clear of the snakes. Yikes!

Thanks Noell - good idea about the dried flowers and the blow drier. For the flowers, did you place those on the candle after the wax had dried with some glue?

those are so cute! they must smell amazing. i used to make candles with paraffin wax and dried flowers. the dried flowers around the outsides covered up some of the multiple pour lines.

a tip i got from a woman who used to re-tool/build and re-gift candles is to melt the top layer with a blow drier so you're not pouring hot wax onto dried wax. i'm not sure if that would help the color change though.

Thanks Erin. Yes, the air pockets are annoying. I think it's the heat that does it. Repouring works, but if you use a clear jar, you can see the second pour and the wax isn't all the same color. Either way, it was a lot of fun, and I'm going try again to see if a lower temp helps. I also read that lengthening the time it takes for the wax to cool, by using Styrofoam helps, but I'm not sure how that would be done exactly.

The yogurt is Spega from Trader Joes (its really delish).

I love making candles, but haven't done it in years. Wasn't very good at it, lots of air pockets. You've got some great tips here, so I may have to give it another try. Those yogurt containers are adorable, where did you find them?

Sounds awesome! Yep, our first time out was kind of cold, so we had our wet suits on and were only out for about two hours.

Make sure you have a wetsuit as the water has been really cold this year in Southern California. I spent the summer there this year and the water was way too cold. I guess that's why I live in Costa Rica... With year round water temps above 75 degrees Fahrenheit makes it the perfect place to learn how to surf. And in my case, it's the perfect place to surf my brains out!

I started skateboarding. Been hitting the Seattle Center Skatepark. Need to go check Innerspace, the indoor skatepark, near Gas Works and the park at Greenlake.

Ken- Yeah, it made a huge difference to have someone watch my riding and critique it. I'd highly recommend it--especially if you can get someone who is certified level 3 instructor. It was also fun to ride with an instructor because she knew a lot more of the mountain than I did--knew where good hikes were and kept us away from cliffs and streams.

Sounds like awesome conditions. I consider myself an advanced all mountain rider, but I think at that point that you mentioned where you feel like you've kind of hit a dead spot in advancing. I think I'm gonna have to try and get some instruction soon.

I think I saw a bunch of ladies sitting to the entrance of the half pipe on Sunday with an instructor and another group at small progression park (yes I am not a park guy so I had to take slow on the jumps). Looked like all of you were having a great blast in such great conditions.
